Safety Procedures for Athletic Events
Thank you for helping us create a safe, fun, and memorable game day experience.
Entry and Re-entry
Spectators must be screened through our weapons detection system before entering. If you leave the game, a new ticket and screening are required for re-entry.
Clear Bag Policy
Dare County Schools' athletic departments adopted a clear bag policy for athletic games and events last school year. To help make entry quick and easy, guests are encouraged to leave bags at home or in their vehicles whenever possible. Guests who need to bring a bag should use a clear bag. OpenGate Weapons Detection Systems will also be used at athletic events.
What this means for spectators:
- Bags brought into athletic venues must be clear (plastic, vinyl, or PVC) and no larger than 12" x 6" x 12." One gallon clear plastic storage bags are allowed.
- Small clutch purses or wallets no larger than 4.5" x 6.5" (with or without a strap) are permitted.
- Medically necessary bags are permitted.
- Backpacks, large purses, tote bags, or any non-clear bags that exceed the size limits are not permitted.
- Coolers or oversized bags (unless part of an approved team or event need) are not permitted.
Weapons Detection Systems
Enhanced weapons screening technology will be in use at the gates to keep everyone safe.
- Please allow extra time for entry.
- Before entering the event, have Chromebooks, three-ring binders, glasses cases, eyelash curlers and other metal or tin cases removed from bags. Spectators should be prepared to hand these items to a staff member before walking through the OpenGate system.
Adult Supervision
Children in 8th grade or below must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or supervising adult. This ensures young fans stay safe while we focus on overall event security.
