Ms. Beth Haneman-Rooks, Principal

br

Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year!  I am looking forward to serving you as the principal at Cape Hatteras Secondary School.  I am extremely excited about working with the students, staff and parents to make this year the best educational experience possible for our students.

Throughout the year, I would like to encourage parental and community involvement, input and participation in order to provide the best experience possible for our students.  Success occurs most often when there is a clear partnership between the school, students and parents.   This partnership surely foster creative thinking and problem solving for students to apply classroom learning to real life situations.  By emphasizing these skills, we will be creating lifelong learners that are prepared for a future in the 21st Century

The staff at Cape Hatteras Secondary School are committed to our students.  Each teacher is carefully crafting an environment that provides high standards and expectations for each student.  As a team, the staff at Cape Hatteras Secondary are working together to discuss exemplary instructional practices, examine and collaborate on student data, and design student activities that are co-curricular and provide our students with the skills to be successful in their future.  We are raising the rigor and incorporating AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) strategies into each classroom.  Teachers are implementing these strategies in order to provide our students with the essential skills needed to be college and/or career ready.

We encourage all students to take advantage of all learning opportunities.  This includes taking advantage of our athletic opportunities, dances, clubs, school spirit contests, and our band opportunities.  Student participation in these activities provides a true sense of Hurricane spirit and culture.  Our students will continue to shine and leave a legacy of greatness for future generations.

In closing, I am always available and willing to hear new ideas or thoughts.  Please feel free to contact me at any time if I can be of assistance.  I am truly proud to be given the opportunity to continue to be a part of our students’ lives.

Sincerely,

Beth Rooks
